Obituary for Robert William Weidner II

Robert William Weidner, 64, of Ames passed away surrounded by loved ones on
Thursday November 16, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. In lieu of flowers,
memorials can be made to Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. The family will hold a
memorial service May 2018.

Robert (Rob) was born February 15, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio to parents Robert and
Mildred (Jagel) Weidner. He grew up in Fostoria, Ohio and later moved to Ames where
he met the love of his life, Paula Hartzell. They were married on August 27, 1977 at the
Iowa State University Arboretum and became the proud parents of two adventurous
children. He spent 37 years working for the City of Ames at the Resource Recovery
System, was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, and an active member of
the Ames community.

Rob enjoyed taking the road less traveled (dirt roads throughout the Midwest),
swapping stories with friends, collecting rocks from virtually every place he visited,
watching thunderstorms on the front porch, BLT’s and sweet corn, wine in a box,
banging pots and pans on New Year’s Eve, giving out full-size candy bars for
Halloween, and the smell of sweetgrass. Rob treasured his reign as the King of
Kellogg and will be sorely missed. We love you Good Old Dad.

He is survived by his loving wife Paula Weidner of Ames; his two children, daughter
Emily Weidner and partner Matt Shinderman of Bend, OR, and son David Weidner and
his partner Alissa Russo of Traverse City, MI; his siblings, Micki Brigham, Cathy McNeil,
Janet Lewton, Steven (Mary) Weidner, Patrick (Elaine) Weidner, Jim (Sue) Weidner, and
Chris (Sue) Weidner.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mildred, sister Barbara Zeigler,
and brother Jeff Weidner.
