Obituary for Ruth Lydia Cowley

Ruth Lydia Cowley, age 94 of Erie, Michigan, formally of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2018.

She was born on April 14,1924, in Toledo, to Paul F. and Matilda S. (Hege) Wollenweber. She married Robert C. Cowley on April 14, 1948.
Ruth was a 1942 Libbey High School graduate. She was a founding member of Arlington Ave. Lutheran Church, Toledo, and recently a member of Hosanna Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monclova. She was active in the ladies’ groups including the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society.
She was an artful and faithful homemaker and seamstress. Ruth enjoyed making clothing for her children, crafting, knitting and crocheting. She also found pleasure in making banners for the church, quilting, sewing blankets including baby blankets and bibs which she generously gifted, and putting together 1000-piece puzzles. Ruth was resourceful in cooking and canning to preserve fruits and vegetables. Ruth and Bob enjoyed various trips across the country in their motor home.

Ruth is survived by her 4 loving children: Susan Sturtz, Judy (Ralph) Fuehr, Linda (Michael) Maas and David R. (Jennifer) Cowley; and blessed with 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, parents, her older sister, Hilda Wollenweber and two older brothers, Herbert and George Wollenweber.

Visitation will be from 10am-12pm on Thursday, July 12th, at the David R. Jasin -Hoening Funeral home, 5300 N. Summit Street, Toledo, Ohio, 43611. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon, with Pastor Scott Mosher officiating. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered for Hosanna Evangelical Lutheran Church or ProMedica Hospice.
