Obituary for Aurice J. Hoover

Aurice J. Hoover, 83, of Fostoria, passed away peacefully Saturday Aug 3, 2019 with the comfort of his family.

He was born April 4, 1936 to the late Harold and Vera (Gregory) Hoover. He married the love of his life, Patrica Luman, August 18, 1956 at St Wendelin Catholic Church and she survives in Fostoria.

Surviving are four children, Steven (Sharon) Hoover of Woodstock, GA, Joe (Michelle) Hoover of Port Clinton, Chris (Karen) Hoover of Fostoria and Kerri Jo Toscano of Ft Meyers, FL.; 13 grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Canterbury, Aubrey Hoover, Ethan Hoover, Seth Hoover, Cierra Hoover, Savannah Hoover, Maddie Hoover, Johnna Hoover, Grace Hoover, Tagg Toscano, Kaia Toscano, Cali Toscano, Trey Toscano; seven great grandchildren Graycen Hoover, Claire Canterbury, Finn Canterbury, Crew Canterbury, Lane Canterbury, Tess Canterbury and Everly Hoover.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Anise Comer; brother, David Hoover; and daughter, Patti Hoover Canterbury.

He attended St Wendelin High School where he excelled in football and basketball. Mr. Hoover was also a veteran of the US Army.

Aurie retired after 32 years at Atlas Crankshaft as an Operations Manager and from Norton Manufacturing after 10 years as Vice President of Operations. He was a community leader serving on many boards and committees. He had been a member of Fostoria University Club, past President of Fostoria Community Hospital Board, past President of United Way and the American Cancer Society, he was a past member of the Board of Directors at Ohio Bank and served on the Board of Directors of ProMedica.

He was a member and leader at Wesley United Methodist Church were he raised his children.

Aurie was an avid athlete, marathon runner, cyclist, jogger, roller blader, cross country skier, coach and loved to watch his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren compete. He loved to travel, Cancun being his favorite destination were he would spend a month each winter inviting friends and family to join he and Pat.

He wanted to be remembered as a good father, a good husband and a good guy.

Memorial visitation is Friday August 9, 2019 from 5-8 pm at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria.

Memorial services will begin 10:30 am Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria where the Fostoria United Veterans will provide military honors followed by Pastor William Bentley and Rev. John Blaser presiding.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
