Dolly Mae Barrett, 78, of Fostoria, passed away at 3:22 am Friday June 7, 2019 at Independence House, Fostoria.
She was born April 11, 1941 in Bloomdale to the late David Edward and Virginia Rae (Whicker) Mankin.
Surviving are three children, Tami L. Mankin, Fostoria, James P. DeStefano, Sweden and Joseph A. DeStefano, Findlay; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara A. Smith, Jacksonville, FL, June E. Burkholder, Fostoria and Jane A. Runion, New Riegel; and a brother, Michael L. (the late Deborah) Mankin, Fostoria. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, David R. and Thomas H. Mankin.
Dolly was a 1959 graduate of Fostoria High School and was looking forward to attending her 60th class reunion. She also enjoyed meeting many of her classmates monthly for lunch. Dolly was an Army Nurse during the Vietnam War, she served from 1959-1960. She retired from Wesley Commons after 13 years of service in light duty maintenance. Dolly created gifted artwork. She painted slates and murals during the holidays for Wesley Commons.
Dolly dearly loved her family, her kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered as having a good sense of humor, a little sassy and feisty. She was never selfish and puts others needs before hers.
Visitation is Thursday June 13, 2019 from 2-4 pm at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830. At 4 pm United Veterans of Fostoria will provide military honors followed with reflection by Pastor William Bentley.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the family’s choice c/o the funeral home.
