Betty Achinger, 76, of Lost Peninsula, MI died peacefully surrounded by her family and her beloved dog Buckeye on Monday, January 7, 2019. Betty was born September 26, 1942 to Warren and Martha (Schultz) Heller. She eloped and married John Harry Achinger on October 27, 1960 after they both turned 18 years old. They spent 58 years together in marital bliss.

Betty was a lifelong Point Place area resident and enjoyed working outside the home for many years at First Federal Bank and Riverside Hospital. She was a member of the Ottawa River Yacht Club Auxiliary and Outings Unlimited. She loved boating, traveling, shopping, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Together she and John had four children, Buzz (Kim) Achinger, Jeff (Kristie) Achinger, Tammy (Scott) Martin and Nicky (Dennis) Murphy. She had fourteen beautiful grandchildren, Danielle, Chelsea (Mike), Josh, Taylor, Noah, Sophie and Meagan; Nick (Ashley), Zachary, Jake and Olivia; Morgan (Nick), Abbey and Dennis III, one adorable great-grandson, Aiden, and another great grandchild she was looking forward to meeting in March. Also left to cherish her memory are her brother, David Heller and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Martha Heller, and her mother and father-in-law, William and Marion Achinger.

She will be forever missed by her loving family.

The family will receive guests on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit Street, Toledo, Ohio. Funeral Services will begin Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Erie Union Cemetery, Erie, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Promedica Ebeid Hospice Residence.
