Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" J. Droll

Gerald “Jerry” J. Droll, 89, of Findlay and formerly of Fostoria, passed away at 12:39 am Wednesday August 7, 2019 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green.

He was born September 30, 1929 in Landeck to the late Raymond K. and Mary B. (Stretker) Droll. He married Carolyn L. Wolfarth September 24, 1955 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria and she survives in Findlay.

Also surviving are four daughters, Dee Sherman, Findlay, Chris (Gregg) Ward, Findlay, Carlie (David) Bader, Houston, Texas and Jenny (Craig) Iams, Findlay; five grandchildren, Joshua Sherman, Jeremiah (Suuki) Sherman, Jessica (Christopher) Collier, Andy Ward and Eric (Lauran) Ward; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Ethan Ward; sister, Donna Ewald, Cincinnati; brother, Tom (Janet) Droll, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Roger, and Jim Droll; and sister, Mildred Scheidhauer.

Jerry retired in 1992 from the H.V.A.C. Dept. at Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria. He previously worked as a Master Service Technician for Nye, Inc., Fostoria.

He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the 6th Army, 231st Combat Engineer Battalion, Ft. Lewis, and subsequently assigned to the Desert Rock project, Nevada. He was proud to be an Honor Guard General.

Jerry was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, sharing his talents by serving as an usher for 60 years, a festival worker for 35 years, a K of C bingo volunteer for 25 years, and a volunteer gardener.

Jerry had been a golf member of Loudon Meadows Golf Course and was proud to have shot two holes-in-one; the first one at age 77 and the second one at age 83. He dearly loved his family and cherished spending time with his daughters and sons-in-law. He often referred to his daughters as “Jerry’s Angels.” He also enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Visitation is Sunday August 11, 2019 from 2-4 pm at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria where the family will pray the Rosary at 4 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Monday, August 12, 2019 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Dominique presiding. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery with the Fostoria United Veterans providing military honors. A luncheon will then be served in the Parish Hall of St. Wendelin.

Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Bridge Hospice Cancer Patient Services, or Not by Choice, Kenton.
