Obituary for Jean T. Seibert

Jean Theresa Seibert, 61, of Belle Center and formerly Fostoria, died peacefully Friday afternoon August 23, 2019 at home with family and friends. She lived through eight years of ovarian cancer and remission and a return of the cancer. For the last 6+ months Jean was in the wondrous care of hospice. She made memories her family and friends will share forever.

Jean was born in Defiance on September 1, 1957. She is survived by siblings Dan, Bill (Donna), David (Karen), Cathy, Rick (Kathy), & Tim (Patty) and by several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by parents Roger & Joanne (Corrigan) Seibert and sister, Ann. Jean retired after teaching English Literature and Journalism for 30 years almost all at Upper Scioto Valley High School, McGuffy, Ohio. Jean attended Kent State University and received her Bachelor of Arts from Bowling Green State University. As a teacher Jean served as the yearbook advisor and mentor to many. She organized and led trips to NYC, a tradition she started many years ago, introducing her students to the history and culture of New York. This annual trip continues to this day. At an assembly at school once, the principal and former student proudly proclaimed that Jean was the only NCAA division I athlete member of the faculty. The athletic coaches and staff were all excellent athletes with records from good universities. It just so happened that at her one year at Kent State, the women’s swimming team needed one more athlete. Jean was their woman.

Jean was the soul of our family. Her care for all; her indomitable sense of humor; her wit; her appreciation of many arts; her tolerance of the teasing by her brothers - 4 older, 1 younger; her common sense; her devotion to our parents and to us - these guide and inspire us all.
Jean loved to read and enjoyed Fred Astaire and musicals and good theater and films.

Visitation is Thursday August 29, 2019 from 3-7 pm at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Friday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Dominique presiding. Burial will follow in St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery. A funeral lunch and gathering will then take place in St. Wendelin Parish Hall.
