Obituary for Mary Ann Gardner

Mary Ann Gardner, 83, of Napoleon, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Henry County Hospital. She was born on November 15, 1935 to Harvey and Bessie (Atkins) Maynard of Rossmore, West Virginia. She married Charles Gardner of Napoleon who preceded her in death on March 10, 2015.
Mary Ann worked at Campbell Soup Company as a cooker operator for thirty years before retiring in 1996. Afterwards, she worked at the Henry County Hospital in the cafeteria.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, Yahtzee, cards and going shopping. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who she had a wonderful relationship with. Mary Ann loved everyone she met and will be remembered for her loving and caring personality. Her love for life was an inspiration.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Angela (Matthew) Rice, Napoleon Ohio, Michael (Marsha) Nelson, Malinta Ohio, and Thomas Ronald (Gwen) Nelson Jr., Rossmore, W. Virginina; step-children,Pam (Art) Hubble, Kim Davidson, Allen (Teresa) Gardner, and Danny (Tina) Gardner. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Bessie, husband, Charlie, son, Brian Scott Nelson, step-daughter, Lisa Gardner, granddaughter, Kasey Nelson. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Donald Maynard, Kenneth Maynard, Dallas Maynard, Larry Maynard, Veronia Damron, Dolly Dalton and Shirley Nagy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Walker-Hoening Mortuary (333 W. Main St) of Napoleon from 11 am to 1 pm with the service to immediately follow at 1 pm. Pastor Ben Sheaffer will be officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery of Napoleon.
Memorials in Mary Ann's memory may be made to the Henry County Humane Society or to Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
