Obituary for Rudolph "Coby" Coburn

Rudolph “Coby” Coburn, 79, of Gahanna, Ohio, and formerly of Fostoria, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Three Creeks Senior Living, in Gahanna, Ohio.
He was born on August 20, 1939, in Fostoria, to Harold and Laura (Thompson) Coburn.
He married Jane (DeMuth) Coburn, they later divorced, and she survives him in Gahanna. Also surviving are his daughter Kristy (John) Clay, of Gahanna, and son, David J. (Lisa) Coburn, of Indian Lake, Ohio; companion, Mary (Tryon) Elsea, of Blacklick, Ohio; five grandchildren, Natalie, Luke, and Meredith Clay, and Collin and Chase Coburn; special great-grandchildren, Finn and Baker; and a sister, Judy Hook, of Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Laura Coburn, and three brothers, Raymond, Jack and Don Coburn.
Coby was a 1957 Fostoria High School graduate. He went on to complete his undergraduate studies in Education at Defiance College, and received his Masters Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University.
Coby served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Era, for which we are forever a grateful nation.
He was a teacher and guidance counselor at Fostoria High School, where he also coached, along with coaching at St. Wendelin High School and Defiance College. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church and Attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria.
When he wasn’t teaching or coaching, in his leisure Coby enjoyed playing golf and he found great joy spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at MANN-HARE-HOENING Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St. Fostoria. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home immediately following at 7 p.m., Pastor William Bentley, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be considered to Imagine for Youth Foundation, the Micah Hyde football camp, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
