Obituary for M. Elaine Roush

M. Elaine Roush, 73, of Risingsun, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the University of Toledo Medical Center, in Toledo.
She was born December 7, 1944 in Fostoria to the late Arthur J. and Mary M. (Droll) Ziegman.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Michele (Dennie) Schmitz, of Wayne and son, Marc (Lisa) Roush, of Fremont; four beloved grandchildren, Chelsie and Emily Schmitz and Cody and Cole Roush; and siblings, Wayne (Joan) Ziegman, of Fostoria, Alice La Fontaine, of Findlay, Fred (Elaine) Ziegman, of Findlay, and Joannn (Jim) Schreiner, of Tiffin.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Ray Ziegman, and a special friend, Bernard Wonderly.
Elaine was a 1962 St. Wendelin High School graduate. She went on to attend Mary Manse College from 1962-1964 where she received a Cadet Teaching certificate. She taught at St. Wendelin Elementary School from 1964-1966, and Sandusky Public Schools in 1967. Elaine was married in 1967 and later divorced. Elaine resumed with teaching at Lakota Schools from 1967-1970, and attended Bowling Green State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1978. She received her Gifted K-12 certification in 1990, taught Lakota Local Schools in grades 4, 5 , & 6 from 1978-2003, and retired in August of 2003. She then began substitute teaching in 2004, and continued to sub or tutor until 2017.
Elaine initiated the Gifted Program at Lakota; 1989 HEIGHTS program, and was a member, officer, and President of the Lakota Education Association,. She was a Venture Capital Grant associate, Convention representative for two years, a member of Kansas St. James Church in Fostoria, Ohio, where she was also a parish council member and officer. Elaine was a member of Sandusky County Ohio Retired Teachers Association, a board member of the American Association of University Women, Tiffin, OH branch, a member and officer, President four years, AAUW State Convention committee 2012, Cushing’s Disease National Support group, CUSH, member and board member, representing Ohio and surrounding states. She was a member, officer, President, and reunion organizer of the Lakota Young Farm Women, a 4-H Advisor, a volunteer at Lakota Schools. She was in book study club, Foods Unlimited Study Group, Potpourri Craft Study Group, and Bridge clubs, as well as a member of the Risingsun Historical Society.
Elaine enjoyed family, doing Yoga, traveling, and was an avid reader.
A Memorial visitation will take place from 3-7 pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria. A funeral mass will begin 10 am on Thursday at Kansas St. James Church, 6482 county road 25 Fostoria. Fr.Randy LaFond, celebrant. Elaine will be laid to rest in St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery, Fostoria.
