Obituary for Donald W. Kromer

Donald W. Kromer, 101, of Tiffin and formerly Bascom passed away at 2 am Wednesday March 28, 2018 at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.

He was born July 20, 1916 in Carey to the late George and Martha (Jacoby) Kromer.

Surviving is a sister, Margaret M. Finsel, Orrville; nieces and nephews, James R. (Sandra) Finsel, Garner, NC, Jeanne (Gary) Gonter, Orrville, Darlene Sherer, Cleveland, Ronald (Sarah) Sherer, Cleveland, Steven Sherer, Elizabethton, TN and Diane (Michael) Pozzuto, Richmond Heights; and many great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Sherer and her late husband, Paul; brother-in-law, Richard Finsel; and a great-niece Jeanine Finsel Chatman.

Don was filled with wonderful stories about growing up on a farm, working hard for a living and happiness in retirement. As a young man his day started @ 4:30 am when he would drive trucks hauling stone etc. Then he would farm and do all his own machine repairs. He worked hard but also enjoyed playing cards with friends, hunting fox and also hunting woodchucks. In fact he figures he shot about 3000 woodchucks in his retirement years and then he would donate the meat to the Sportsman Club for their annual wild game feed.

Anyone who knew Don knows how much he loved cars. His favorite was his 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible, red with a hard top & an International Scout also red, his favorite color.
In his later years when his health declined he made the decision to move to Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin. He made many friends there over the years, had an enjoyable time partaking in their many planned activities and truly appreciated all the great care given to him.

Don had a long life, had many adventures and experiences but the absolute most important thing to him was his Catholic Faith. His deep devotion to God carried him through these past challenging weeks of sickness, until God, in the most sacred week of the year, took him to his eternal home.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11 am Tuesday April 3, 2018 at SS Patrick & Andrew Parish, Bascom with Fr. Tim Kummerer, Fr. Art Niewiadomski and Deacon John Walters, presiding. Visitation will take place from 10-11 am at the church, with a funeral luncheon immediately following mass. Entombment will then follow in St. Wendelin Mausoleum.

Memorials are suggested to SS Patrick and Andrew Parish, Bascom c/o Hoening Funeral Home 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830
